A Dupont Mom-to-be, soon with three!

We might have a hard time choosing a name for our baby, but we’ll never have a hard time choosing a hospital.

Hello, I’m Kristin and I’m the mom of two babies — soon to be three — born at Dupont. My son Isaac was one of the first children born in the new hospital and my daughter Audrey was born almost two years later. In October of 2008, I’m expecting another baby boy. We’ve decided to have him at Dupont as well, and the whole family is very excited to welcome him.

Seven years ago, I decided to have Isaac at Dupont after we took a tour of the hospital. During one of our prenatal classes, the instructor showed us around the new facility. Just by seeing the accommodating rooms and meeting the friendly staff, I could tell the hospital was a great fit for both the baby and me. With the tour and classes, I was really looking forward to coming to Dupont to have my baby.

Ever since that first birth, I have always seen Dupont as being very prepared. It’s very organized and very clean and that is something that you don’t always see. I don’t have to worry about anything while I’m here. They had everything ready for the delivery and they obviously knew what they were doing during the birth. There was no question for me of where to go for my second and third babies. Why would I go anywhere else when I have had great experiences here?

The environment at the hospital is calm and the rooms are just wonderful, so big and spacious. At one point, we had both sides of our family in one room and we weren’t even crowded. The rooms were quiet and peaceful, and I never really felt like any other moms were even around. I was in my own, private space for such a wonderful moment.  Plus, I never had to leave! Everything was delivered to me and that was really nice. I was getting star treatment every day, every hour, every time I needed anything from the staff. The fantastic room service sticks out in my mind. Even though I was in labor and in the hospital to have a baby, I felt like I was staying in a hotel.

As the due date for our third baby gets closer, my husband and I are excited for another stay at Dupont and the opportunity to be able to spend bonding time with the baby. That’s one thing we are really looking forward to — that it will be just the two of us and our new baby. With two children at home, it’s going to be a little chaotic when we get back. I’m sure we’ll have Isaac and Audrey come to meet the baby and help out for an hour or two, and then let them take a break and go home. It’ll be nice to have some peaceful quality time with the new addition to our family. Dupont’s environment will be great for that.

Also, I know it’s not always something seen at other hospitals, but Dupont always really listens to my wants and needs. After having Audrey through C-section, I wanted to make sure I could nurse right away. I wanted to be able to see and bond with her immediately, because I know in many of those situations it isn’t possible.  The staff said that if it was important to me, it was one thing they were going to make sure happened. Because she was born by C-section, I wasn’t able to see the delivery, so my husband and Dr. Rumsey talked me through everything that was going on to calm my nerves. She was finally born and it was a great experience because of them. The nurses quickly cleaned her and brought her right to me so I could hold her and nurse her. Because it was what I asked for and was something I really wanted to happen, they certainly did all they could to make it happen.

The staff is really great here at Dupont. I love my doctor and I’ve loved my nurses each time. They’ve been great, and along with the atmosphere, I feel like I’m almost on a vacation when I’m having a baby at Dupont Hospital.
