Our Developmental Care Philosophy

At Dupont Hospital we've designed our neonatal intensive care unit with both babies and families in mind. We specialize in developmental care, the support of an infant's growth and maturation through control of environment (i.e. light and sound), positioning and handling. This kind of care and attention to detail is paramount for a premature or critically infant's success. This special approach reduces stress and enhances self-regulatory behaviors. When developmental philosophy is coupled with a nurturing environment the result is optimal outcomes for the infant.

Our level III NICU offers the latest in technology and developmental care techniques and practices. The unit is staffed by five fellowship-trained, board-certified neonatologists and specially-trained nurses. We have also taken great care in creating a team approach by training our ancillary and support staff to complement our care philosophy. This team includes respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, occupational, speech and physical therapists, case managers and chaplain.
